Recently a new breed of higher end snuff kit case has arrived. The design is a sold metal box (sometimes in more flashy chrome and gold) with a sliding drawer inside. The snuff kit case is designed to be held in one hand and the drawer should slide out with a gentle pull (keeping it the correct side up) to reveal the snuff nicely lined up in the grooves inside.

The two biggest players in this market are Royal Box and Onegee. Both offer a range of styles but are essentially the same concept of sliding drawer. Snuff kits like this have become highly desirable but come with a higher price tag sometimes running into hundreds of pounds.

Royal Box snuff kit case is a similar style to the Onegee sliding drawer. There is however more emphasis on the variety of decorative styles they can come in. Some with Python skin texture some with a wooden look, rather than the simpler metallic look. Royal box do also offer a cheaper plastic version of the snuff kit case. This is ok and does essentially the same job as the more refined precision metal cases but after some time they wear and stick so it might be better to invest in a proper metal one.

But to me the real good thing about these is the precision they are made with. The drawer has to fit perfectly inside the case for two reasons. First the stuff needs to stay neatly in the grooves inside or it will spill out, so it has to be a tight fit. Second the drawer cannot be too tight to stick. So you appreciate how bank on these must be. I am very impressed!

The NYSBERRY is a snuff kit with a hidden straw. No snuff kit is complete without a decent snorting straw and the Nysberry has it’s own neat snorting tube hidden in the side of the kit. Releasing the straw requires a gentle sliding of the top of the kit to reveal the storage hole. The straw can then be removed by gravity when you turn the kit upside down for a moment. Some slight concentration is required to catch the straw as it neatly slides out. The whole experience becomes second nature after a few goes and is somewhat impressive for friends to behold. The Royal Box has become a symbol of a professional snuff user. The combined hidden tray and hidden snorting straw is simple enough to use and does not require another surface to operate. The neat sliding tray means you can prepare your stuff well in advance for use. Slowly pushing the under tray further and further out reveals more and more pre-prepared lines. Royal Box do have a variety of designs and price levels. It’s worth investing in the more expensive metal ones as the cheaper plastic version is slightly less smooth to use and can age quicker. The more expensive metal ones are a dream.

Premium snuff boxes are coming onto the market this year along with some more higher end snuff accessories such as the Snogo. I have been contacted many times in the past by buyers who want to purchase more upmarket snuff boxes and snuff kits but unfortunately there was not much available in this category. Premium versions of snuff boxes and snuff kits do make excellent gifts for others so it’s no surprise there is demand in this category. Recently some new players have appeared on the scene to fill this gap.

I was recently contacted by OneGee a snuff box company based in Switzerland. I was immediately impressed by the look of their premium snuff boxes. I had seen and tried similar sliding tray snuff boxes before such as the Royal Box. I had one of the cheaper Royal Boxes and found it very good but after a little while the sliding draw started to get stuck and it became useless. I guess it pays to get the higher quality pricier boxes in the long run.  There are more premium versions of the Royal Box now so I should give one of these a try soon. By the look of some of them they are worth the extra money.

The new snuff boxes from OneGee are similar to the ones sold by Royal Box with slightly varied designs on the tray, that is the inside of the box. The grooves in the tray and smaller and more numerous but work in very much the same way. Some of the more expensive versions of the OneGee snuff box have a secure latch to increase the secretiveness of the box and to stop the snorting straw from accidentally falling out. Both brands use mainly aluminium as the prime material for the box the main difference is in the colour and finish of the box. OneGee snuff boxes have an antibacterial surface which is good for cleaning and reduces wear.

The Royal Box comes in a variation of patterns and textured casings but is essentially the same design throughout. Some of the wooden and snake skin covers do add a certain element of style to the boxes. The OneGee does have more variation in the layout of the sliding tray, with a different pattern of grooves on each type. Also the OneGee has the secure latch in it more expensive models. Which is best I can’t say at this time as I have not had a chance to test each of these side by side. But I hope to try these soon and update you.
