Snuff keys are snuff spoons in the shape of a key. This is mostly a novelty as having a snuff spoon in the shape of a key does not actually improve the function of it. If anything it might make it worse as keys are not the best shape for lifting or snorting with. But the novelty factor is appealing to many because of the famous line “doing a key”. Snuff Key for “doing a key”
‘Doing a key’ or ‘keying it’ are phrases you might recognise. When your out and about and need to use your snuff or other powders you might not have any tools at hand except for your house keys. The last line of resort for doing your stuff is the house key you will always have with you. Keys are not perfect for doing snuff but they are good enough. Your typical Yale House Key will be flat with grooves on it which will collect your snuff from a bag in a spoon like manner. You can then snort away but be careful to keep the key straight or you can lose a bit easily.

The best known Snuff Keys are made by OG SNUFF. These look great and work well. They look like a funky version of the typical Yale house key but the grooves are cut at the pointy end to be more useful for lifting snuff. They come in a range of colours for extra fun. In my option these are something of a gimmick, something to impress your friends. Yes they look cool and will get a laugh but as a tool for sniff they are average. A real spoon would most likely work a lot better.
